Charity Web Design: Rollercoaster of Love

January 30, 2008 9:34 am

Having a charity website means nothing if no one knows that you even exist. The answer to this problem is to have SEO work done on your charity website. There are a lot of websites out there dedicated to a whole slew of different causes. There is most likely quite a few charities already made that fight for the same cause that yours does. With this in mind I would think that it is important that if someone is searching for a charity to donate to that yours comes up as one of the first.

There are a lot of things that are done to help your charity website become noticed. Usually a good start for SEO work is to change the title tags and Meta tags so that they reflect your keywords. These are the words that your charity is associated with and will be found under when people use a search engine. There are other things that go into search engine optimization, one important factor is the content found on your website. Everything that is written is taken into consideration to whether or not your charity website is relevant to those key words that you chose. So make sure when writing your content for the website that you keep SEO in mind.

There are many other things that go into search engine optimization. In fact, there are tons of things that could be done to improve your rankings with the search engines. Most of these things need to be done on a regular basis though and there-in lies the problem. You need to have someone working on SEO for your website on a continuous basis to make sure that your charity website keeps going up. Most people who have websites built get SEO done on their site but as soon as their site is done, that’s all she wrote. This works for a while but in order to make sure that your charity website continues to climb. For more information on educational web design check us out at DreamCo Design - Charity Web Design. Charity Web Design: Design on a Dime

January 15, 2008 9:58 am

As far as charity web design goes, I believe that it is one of the hardest types of web design work to have done for you. Most charities are non-profit and therefore don’t have any money to shell out for a web designer to build them a site. Although this is an obstacle that you have to get around, it will be worth it in the end. Letting your cause be known to a wider range of people and therefore bringing in a lot more money to help fight for it. I’ve told you all about the tribulations of making a charity website. I’ve also told you what I think should be included as far as information goes in your charity website. All these tips and such are my opinion of course. If there is any information you would like to add on your charity website it is, in the end, up to you and only you. I want to talk about the design of your charity website next. This pertains to how the site looks and feels to people visiting it.

When I think about going to a charity website the first thing that I want to feel from it is that the charity is professionalism and class. This can be done in a couple of ways. For one, making sure that your site is simple but still looks like a good quality website is a good way to go about this. There shouldn’t be anything flashy or anything too busy on the site. Use colors that are easy on the eyes; something that is soothing or calming is best. As far as color goes I would go with something more natural looking. Using earth tones make people feel like they are at peace. Your charity website should be designed so that it is easy to use. A simple layout is best. Use larger buttons (not too large) so that visitors can easily see where they are. The text on the site should be medium sized; anything too small will not be easy for visitors to read. Your pictures should be high quality, especially if you have a large banner on your site. When you see gritty low quality pictures on a site it takes away from the image of the site almost immediately.

By taking extra time to see what other websites you enjoy (whether or not they are charity websites) you can have a good idea when you go in of what you want your charity website to look like. Bring these design ideas up to your web designer and show them that this is what you are looking for in your own site. By following these tips you can be sure to have a site that is pleasing to visit. For more information on charity web design check us out at DreamCo Design - Charity Web Design. Charity Web Design: What They Should Know

9:11 am

With all the troubles that come along with making a charity website it seems like no one would even consider bothering with it. Although there are many benefits, like bringing your charity to the next level by enticing people to donate, still people don’t want to even try. I talked before about how there really aren’t a lot of people out there that will do a website for free, and if they do, it won’t be very good quality. It would make your charity look as though they are unprofessional or possibly a scam to some people. More and more people are getting suspicious of charities these days because there are so many scams out there. Having a professionally built website and some information that you could give out would be your best way to battle naysayers and skeptics.

There should be a wealth of information on your website pertaining to your charity. Anything you can possible think of that people are going to want to know should be somewhere on your charity website. If these things weren’t obvious enough I will tell you some of the things that I would want to know if I were thinking about donating to a charity. The first thing I would want to know is how long this charity has been around and where did it start. I’d want to know what the charity was for. Meaning I’d want to know the cause the charity is working for. These two areas are the most important to expand on. Knowing the history of the charity is important to me because if there is none I would be skeptical to donate anything. Also, the cause is obviously important to write a lot about because if it is something I am interested in I would like to be able to read a lot of information about it. Another area that would be of interest to me would be an area dedicated to show what you have done in this field towards your cause. If you’ve done a lot to help your cause then I most likely would be impressed and it would also show me that your charity actually would be using my money towards a good reason.

These three areas are probably the most important and would be the deciding factor to someone. So make sure that you don’t leave any information out. The more truthful and open you seem the more comfortable people are going to be with donating money to your cause. Charity Web Design: No Help

8:24 am

I talked a little about how having a charity web site would help no only you, as the charity, but everyone looking to get some information about you. It will help them see who you are, what you’re about, and most importantly it will show people you actually exist. The only problem that arises with most charity website and charity web design is that no one wants to do something for nothing. I’ve seen a lot of web design jobs posted for charities who want websites and I think “Good for you!” It’s great that they are getting themselves out there so that people will find them and help their cause, because it’s usually a good one. The only problem is that when they post what they want there is a big fat NO PAY double underlined, highlighted, and bold.

I realize that most charities don’t have a lot of funding behind them. They try to rely on the good will of others, but there isn’t really a lot of that out there these days. People design these websites as a job to feed their families or just themselves. Most web designers can’t afford to take a non-paying job. It would be a waste of time and most won’t even think to reply at all. This is one thing that you have to realize as the person looking to have a charity website. There is another problem. Even if you were to find someone to do your website for free chances are that the quality of the product is not going to be very good at all. If someone is doing the website for free there is usually a reason. Most likely they are an amateur web designer and they just need some jobs to start off so they can hone their skills. Using your website to do it. If this is fine with you then by all means, go right ahead. There is nothing wrong with helping someone along in their career. If you want to be taken seriously as a charity when potential donors look at your charity then you should really think about paying for services.

It’s better to wait and save up money to get a good product then to spend little or none and get something that is not even going to be worth it. If there is any way for your charity to make some money for yourselves to build a website, I would go about doing it. It will be your best decision to go with a professional web designer and get your charity website built right. Charity Web Design: Donating Information

7:58 am

Charity web design can be beneficial to many different people. The first and most obvious group is the actual charity itself. Having a website giving information and supporting your charity could give it some much needed attention and bring in those helping dollars that you are trying so desperately to raise. A lot of people give to charities each year; some do it just because and some do it so they can get the tax right off. Not that it matters the reason right? As long as you get the resources you need to go towards the cause you’re working for. Unless you are one of the larger charities, most people are not going to know about you unless your well know locally; even then your only working on a small market to raise some big funds.

Having a website will help you draw in people who are interested in your cause. A lot of people go on the internet to find a charity and see what they are all about. If you fit the bill they’ll be sure to donate something, especially if your website is informative and well put together. We’ll talk about what your charity website should include in a later post. So the second group that a charitable website benefits is the actual person donating. Most people nowadays are very suspicious of anyone trying to collect money for a cause. You see it everyday; they come to your door saying they are raising money for something without having any information to back it up. They stand outside stores each Christmas ringing that little bell. Ding! Ding! They even stand in the middle of lighted intersections to walk up to your car window for a donation. Charities are everywhere and now that they are so common, people don’t know which one to donate to or if they should donate at all. They don’t want to be throwing their money away to a false cause. This is why most people get shooed away when they try to collect money.

Having a website that you could give to people when you are collecting is a fantastic idea. Even if you don’t actually go out and collect money, just having that website will help in the most immense way.
