Photography Web Design: The Three Questions

Standard

Continuing on from the last post I wanted to cover some of the guidelines and expectations that you should have for the web designer that you choose to do your photography website. There are a lot of web designers out there are pining for your business and there are a few things that you should look at with each of them:

1.) Where are they located? (This depends a lot on you. I personally believe that it doesn’t matter where a web designer is located because either way you are going to be looking at a computer screen anyways. You can get the same amount of work done over the phone with your web designer as you can right next to them. For others, they feel that having the web designer in the area is beneficial to getting in touch with them and being able to supervise their project. It is really up to you.)

2.) What does their portfolio look like? (There are a lot of designer and developers out there and some of them don’t have any experience. It is up to you to ask for a portfolio of their work and to go over that portfolio. If they are more of a programmer or designer and they give you a list of websites, make sure to look at only the programming or design side of the site depending. A good goal would be to find someone, or a company, that is well rounded on each side of things. This is where companies are a little better off being your choice for a web designer than a freelancer.)

3.) Do they seem reliable? (If you are on a deadline or just want someone that is going to show you some respect the best way to find that out is going to be by talking with them. Get on the phone with them and ask them any questions that come to mind. They should be helpful and professional as well as friendly. If you get the impression at all that they don’t know what they are doing or they aren’t going to be helpful to you at all times than leave them behind. There are too many other web designers out there that will give you better service.)

These being the three main things that you should look over. There are a lot of different aspects that you can and will look over but these three being the main ones that you should feel comfortable with. Good luck.
