The decision on what type of dating website you want to build can be the hardest choice you have to make throughout this whole project. Either you develop a local dating website that includes the major city and the burbs of your area, or you put up a national dating website. Both types of websites have their pros and cons.

Take a national dating website. What can they offer that the local market can not? Well for one the site is functioning on a grander scale then a local, so it is most likely going to cost more money to develop nationally. Since money is always an issue, it is something you may want to deeply consider before moving ahead with. The national dating website while costing a little more will draw in more customers, because you are not limiting yourself to a specific region. This means more money for you. Whether you are charging people to put up their profile or it is a free site pumped full of ads, the more people you allow in the more money they will give or make you. So from the get go a national dating website may cost a few extra bucks to start up, but in the end it should pay for itself with all the traffic you will be getting.

So local or regional dating websites may not be functioning on the same scale as the big national website, but you are probably going to save some money. But the flip side of that coin is that since you are limiting your area you might not bring in as many singles as the big national dating website. But you have to consider that fact that you have the advantage of knowing the smaller area you are in. This would make it much easier for you to set up events in your area for the singles on your website. This will make you more exposed in your area and it will make other singles in your area realize what they might be missing out on. Also since you have the advantage of knowing the area, your ads can be for local restaurants, bars, and clubs. This will bring in even more cash for you, and make it a little more worthwhile.

So it seems that both types of dating websites have their strong points and weeks points. Another option could be to start out in a certain city and expand your website to a more national level as the need grows. It would be awesome to see your dating website grow from a few hundred members to millions all over the country.
