Charity Web Design: No Help
January 15, 2008 8:24 am         I talked a little about how having a charity web site would help no only you, as the charity,
but everyone looking to get some information about you. It will help them see who you are, what you’re about, and most importantly it will show people you actually exist. The only problem that arises with most charity website and charity web design is that no one wants to do something for nothing. I’ve seen a lot of web design jobs posted for charities who want websites and I think “Good for you!” It’s great that they are getting themselves out there so that people will find them and help their cause, because it’s usually a good one. The only problem is that when they post what they want there is a big fat NO PAY double underlined, highlighted, and bold.
I realize that most charities don’t have a lot of funding behind them. They try to rely on the good will of others, but
there isn’t really a lot of that out there these days. People design these websites as a job to feed their families or just themselves. Most web designers can’t afford to take a non-paying job. It would be a waste of time and most won’t even think to reply at all. This is one thing that you have to realize as the person looking to have a charity website. There is another problem. Even if you were to find someone to do your website for free chances are that the quality of the product is not going to be very good at all. If someone is doing the website for free there is usually a reason. Most likely they are an amateur web designer and they just need some jobs to start off so they can hone their skills. Using your website to do it. If this is fine with you then by all means, go right ahead. There is nothing wrong with helping someone along in their career. If you want to be taken seriously as a charity when potential donors look at your charity then
you should really think about paying for services.
It’s better to wait and save up money to get a good product then to spend little or none and get something that is not even going to be worth it. If there is any way for your charity to make some money for yourselves to build a website, I would go about doing it. It will be your best decision to go with a professional web designer and get your charity website built right.
