After making sure that you have all the content your web designer has requested turn over to their hands there really is nothing else for you to do. Making sure that you keep in contact with them and check up on your project is a given. After the project has been completed for you there is something you have to talk to your web designer about and that is SEO or search engine optimization. Search engine optimization is how you are going to be found on the internet. People using search engines like Google or Yahoo put in key terms that you could potentially be found on if you were to have SEO done on your photography website.

There are a lot of different techniques that can be used for search engine optimization and SEO is not a onetime deal. You should always be doing continuous work on your photography website so that it can be found by people looking for your services in your area. Since there are a lot of ways to go about SEO and you most likely have no idea what SEO is it would be a good idea to talk with your web designer about your options. Some web design companies don’t do SEO work on any of their clients’ websites and others offer to continuously do work on them. It depends on what web designer you choose and therefore should be thought about before you choose.

Either way there should be some sort of option for you to go to for search engine optimization work. Whether it is through the company or through someone they recommend or are partnered with.

After going through the tedious process of finding a web designer to take on your photography website there are a few things that you need to make sure you complete before putting your hands behind your head and sitting to relax while your site is being built. You are a photographer and there are plenty of pictures that are going to be put up throughout your website. These pictures that are going to be put up are obviously going to be your work and therefore they need to be provided by you. Makes sense, doesn’t it?

You shouldn’t worry about the pictures that you are going to have in your portfolio or gallery because most likely there is going to be an admin panel set up for you to put your own picture in and have them displayed. This would be the best way for a web designer to do this for you because that way you can add or remove pictures whenever you want and it is simple for you to do rather than having a webmaster hired or having to learn a little programming yourself.

This little step of you submitting your content to the web designer can make sure that you move forward in a timely manner or that your photography website takes a millennium to complete. Be responsible and send your content to your designer so that they can act the same towards you. It’s the worst and most common thing that happens in web design. The customer forgets or thinks that the site can be completed without them and the content that the web designer asked for. Then the whole project gets behind and people end up getting mad. It’s a common occurrence and can be avoided.

Continuing on from the last post I wanted to cover some of the guidelines and expectations that you should have for the web designer that you choose to do your photography website. There are a lot of web designers out there are pining for your business and there are a few things that you should look at with each of them:

1.) Where are they located? (This depends a lot on you. I personally believe that it doesn’t matter where a web designer is located because either way you are going to be looking at a computer screen anyways. You can get the same amount of work done over the phone with your web designer as you can right next to them. For others, they feel that having the web designer in the area is beneficial to getting in touch with them and being able to supervise their project. It is really up to you.)

2.) What does their portfolio look like? (There are a lot of designer and developers out there and some of them don’t have any experience. It is up to you to ask for a portfolio of their work and to go over that portfolio. If they are more of a programmer or designer and they give you a list of websites, make sure to look at only the programming or design side of the site depending. A good goal would be to find someone, or a company, that is well rounded on each side of things. This is where companies are a little better off being your choice for a web designer than a freelancer.)

3.) Do they seem reliable? (If you are on a deadline or just want someone that is going to show you some respect the best way to find that out is going to be by talking with them. Get on the phone with them and ask them any questions that come to mind. They should be helpful and professional as well as friendly. If you get the impression at all that they don’t know what they are doing or they aren’t going to be helpful to you at all times than leave them behind. There are too many other web designers out there that will give you better service.)

These being the three main things that you should look over. There are a lot of different aspects that you can and will look over but these three being the main ones that you should feel comfortable with. Good luck.

The search for a reliable and quality web designer to take care of your photography website is going to take you far and wide. Web designers from all over will want to take it upon themselves to earn your business and it is up to you which of them gets to take home the prize. There are some things that you should take into consideration when looking for a web designer. One being that you never know what you are going to get, and by this I mean that web designers vary in age location and skill level so much that you really have to do some research on all the web designers that you are even thinking about.

When you’ve gotten those select few that you feel confident in even considering then you should have a conversation with each of them. Keeping notes and comparing between companies and/or freelancers to see which is going to give you the most out of their services and give you the best deal for it. It’s hard for those people who don’t know anything about web design to even try and compare between web design companies because you don’t even know what anything really is; things like SEO and custom programming and whatnot. There really is no easy way for someone that isn’t sharp in this area to pick out a designer for their photography website.

There are a few things/rules that you should have for your web designers when you are talking with them. I will cover those guidelines in the next post as I feel that it is worth another separate post to go over them. This article is more to advise people that are thinking about photography web design to judge their prospect carefully before jumping in the boat with them.

After considering to make an investment in a photography website that is going to help you immensely with getting clients, there is something that you have to do. Figure out what you want! You need to have a good understanding of what you want from your site as far as functionality goes (remember we talked about functionality before). Functionality is everything that you want your website to have and do as far as what you can do to it or what clients can do on it. Design also needs to be thought about; the layout, the colors, your logo, and everything else like this. Figure out what you want from your photography website so that you can clearly convey what you want.

If your one who has no idea what you want you can do a couple of things to solve this problem. One thing would be going to other photographer’s websites and finding things on theirs that you like; make a list of these things and present that to your web designer. You could also gather inspiration in the real world, things that catch your eye or anything like that. Write it down to make sure that you bring it up to your web designer and see what possibilities they can come up with for incorporating things into your photography website.

Make sure that all of your ideas are going to go together well in a design aspect of things. Your web designer can go through your ideas and tell you what is going to be a good idea and what you are going to want to steer clear of. You should listen their advice because they know the business and the internet. You don’t have to follow exactly what they say but it is good to keep what they tell you in mind. Building your website the right way is going to be the main priority and you should welcome any help that you can get on the subject.

Having a photography website is going to benefit a lot of people. We already talked about that. There aren’t any downfalls to making a photography website other than the fact that you are going to have to put some money into it. We can call it an investment, because truly, that is what it is. Having a website is and investment because the website is going to bring you business once the site is up and live. There are going to be people contacting you because of your website and if you think about what goes into a photography website you might have to take on two jobs and your website will be paid for. Most likely those gigs are going to come from the website and there you go, website paid for itself.

Making a photography website is going to be an investment. Done. Check. You now know that. But how much of an investment? That all really depends on a few things. The functionality of a website is going to be what decides how much you are going to put into your photography website. Functionality is all the different things that you want on your website and what you want your website to do. Having the ability to put your photos up when you please is a function. Things like that are what decide a website’s cost. Most photography websites are going to consist of a home page, contact, services, and the portfolio section. In terms of web design and web development, this kind of website is not going to run you too deep into your back account. If you are looking for something more, the investment you will be putting in will grow. Its simple math and you can’t expect to get a website for nothing.

Try to save up a bit of money before you go out and build that photography website. This way you can get started on the website right away without having to wait for your next check to come.

Creating a photography website is one of the most beneficial things that you can do for yourself as a photographer. When people look for photographers they usually flock to the internet to see who is around their area, who services their area, and to look through photographer’s portfolios to see what kind of work that they have done before (you wouldn’t want to hire a wedding photographer for a modeling shoot, right?) By having your photos on the internet it makes it easier for those viewing to figure out if they are going to get in touch with you. Having a photography website that you can put all your pictures up on is going to show people that you are serious about your work and that you want people to see what you have done.

Enough of me going on and on about how a photography website could benefit you. I mean, you know it would and there is no reason why you shouldn’t have a website dedicated to your work. This is an easy decision and can be made quite quickly. The answer is, “Yes, I want to have a photography website.” Just in case you were wondering.

Having a photography website is going to bring you in a lot more business than you just handing out your business cards and showing your physical portfolio to people. Think about it. It could be a great move if you are in search of work or if you just want to get things started. The website is not only for displaying your portfolio it is also for showing how much you charge and what your services are. It shows where you are located and who you even are. There are a lot of different areas that should be on your website. It’s up to you to get the ball rolling though.

Photography is something that everyone seems to be getting into these days. You see everyone with their digital cameras at almost everywhere you go; and why wouldn’t you? Digital cameras are portable, easy to use, inexpensive (depending on the camera), and they carry a lot of pictures. Having the ability and opportunity to take pictures wherever you are at is something that people today seem to find valuable. I own a digital camera and I love the thing. I keep it in my purse because you never know when a good picture opportunity will come up. Not only that, but most digital cameras take video as well. Granted, the zooming capabilities are not all that great and the amount of time that you can take video depends on your memory card, but it still makes it easy to take a quick video without having a video recorder with you as well.

Taking photos is something that everyone does. There is nothing better for keeping hold of memories than a picture. It is estimated that they are worth about 1000 words. Its science.

Taking these photos and putting them online is also something that a lot of people do in one way or another. MySpace profiles and other community websites, photo-sharing websites, personal websites, and all that are centered around pictures. Pictures are everywhere on the internet, sporadically placed within every website. When I talk about photography web design though, what I’m really focusing on is those websites that are dedicated to a photographer for his/her works.

Photographers always have a portfolio that they show anyone interested in using them. Before the internet photographers would obviously have their best prints in a book for people to check out. Nowadays, they do the same thing for face to face meetings but how are photographers to promote themselves so people know their services and can check them out without having to meet. BAM! The internet. This is where photographers can put themselves and their works out there so that potential clients can see their previous work and possibly get in contact with them for a job. Oh, the internet… you are my hero.

You have already decided that you are going to need a photography website. You have figured out all the things you are going to want your photography website to do. Now the only thing you have left to worry about is how people are going to find your photography website?

The internet is flooded with photographers or photography companies all chopping for those same few clients. So you need to make sure you get the most exposure you can. The more exposure your photography website gets, the more business you will see, and then ultimately the more money you will make. But what types of things can you do to make sure your photography website gets all the exposure it deserves? The answer to that question is search engine optimization or SEO.

SEO is a term used more and more these days. It is basically the process of improving a websites position on the search results page. Or the strategy of increasing that particular website’s relevance. When a search engine is set to find information it looks for several things. Some of the things the search engine looks for are key words, related words and several other elements. SEO is an extremely important process that every website owner needs to do in order to be successful.

One of the major things you can do is to be key word heavy. If you choose to write your own content make sure you use the types of words that people are going to be searching for. Say you make the most money off of wedding photography. Make sure you have a separate page dedicated to wedding photography. Also use the words wedding photography as much as possible without over killing it. You really can’t have an entire web page where the only word is wedding photography. If you did that the search engines will know what you are doing and they will kick you off their search results. That would be very bad. You want to be smart about it. Every time you say photography or photographs put the word wedding in front of it. It is usually best to write out what you want to say, then go back and see where you can plug in the key words.

Another thing you can do to improve your photography website using SEO is to give the photographs you post to your website titles. The title should be the same title with a different subtitle. For instance if you had a gallery of wedding photographs, you would title them like “Wedding Photographs/cutting the cake” or “Wedding Photographs/bridesmaid one”. This is a relatively easy way to add relevant key words to your photography website.

There are many other ways to perform SEO on your photography website. Most companies charge a considerable amount of money for this process. DreamCo Design does free SEO on every website we build. DreamCo Design also offers SEO to owners of already built websites for way less then the other guys. Most of the things that SEO covers are fairly time consuming and a little confusing, if you don’t really know much about web design. Let DreamCo Design handle the hard stuff and you worry about taking pictures to fill up your new photography website. Give DreamCo Design a call and see what we can do for all your photography web design and SEO needs.

Once you have decided you are going to need a photography website, you need to think about what type of things you going to want that particular website to do. The list of the different functions a website can do is relatively endless. So it is important to know your customers and figure out the kinds of things they are going to want to do on your website.

This has to be one of the hardest steps in the development of your photography website. You actually have to put your self in the shoes of your customer, for most this is not an easy task. We spend so much time separating ourselves form the customer. Making it clear to ourselves that the customer is an entity that we are usually face to face with. This is not the case when you are dealing with customers over the web. Every person that clicks on your photography website is going to be a potential customer. So you need to know ahead of time the things that they are going to be looking for. It is a little of a mind trip but getting into your customers head is probably the best business strategy around.

One of the things you are going to have to decide on is whether you are just using your website to give yourself online presence or if you are going to make this your online portfolio. Also you may want to consider the fact that customers may want to purchase some of the photographs they see. So you may want to think about making your photography website an online store as well. This would give your customers more options and allow them to spend more time on your website. This is great because it is a known fact that the longer the customer stays in or on the website the more likely they will be to purchase something from you or acquire your services.

Deciding to have a photography website usually means that you recognize that your work is worthy and possibly in demand. This is a bit of an ego check because most artists feel their work is never good enough. This modest attitude needs to be tossed out the window when it comes to your photography website. You want your best work displayed and available to your customers. If it helps have someone else choose which pieces to put up on the website. Whatever you choose to do, you know your work and or services are good enough to be out there for the world to use.n Deciding on getting a photography website is a pretty big decision to have to make. It is an even bigger deal to decide what you’re going to have your website do. Or what you want the users of the site to do after looking at your galleries. Take the time to get into the head of your customers, find out what they want and what they want from you.
