Music Web Design: Search Engines & Your Website

March 12, 2008 7:22 am

Making your music website has probably been one of the most time consuming projects that you have taken on in the life of your music website. Although it requires less footwork and you really aren’t the one building it at all, it does have you doing a lot of research, writing and management of your project. It’s not hard work in the terms of normal “work” but it is tedious and requires your attention nonetheless. In the end it is going to be one of the best investments you can make for your music if you are serious about continuing in this field as a permanent career. After your music website is built and ready to go live, there is something that is optional but also necessary.

Search engine optimization is something that is frequently overlooked by those who have music websites built for them. Without some type of SEO done on your music website it is going to be hard for you to get yourself out there to new faces. People will be able to find your website if they know your URL or if they know you by name or something of that nature. Otherwise, your music website becomes lost in the search engine results, all the way at the back at the end of the list (where no one in their right mind looks at).

Ask your web designer if they offer search engine optimization services. If they don’t, try to ask if there is somewhere or someone to whom they can refer you for that. It is imperative that you get this done at least to some extent on your music website so that you can be introduced to those who don’t know you while they are using search engines. Not getting SEO work done on your website would be a big mistake. Getting a music website built so that you can market yourself without getting search engine optimization is counter-productive to the whole reason of making a music website. Don’t let it get away from you. For more information on music web design check us out at DreamCo Design - Music Web Design. Music Web Design: D-Day

March 10, 2008 7:59 am

Waiting for your music website to be completed is one of the most boring times of the whole project. You’ll be anxiously awaiting the finished product and it may seem like it is taking forever. There really is a lot that goes into a well designed website that has a lot of functionality, so don’t try to rush your developer into getting it finished as quick as possible. Although you shouldn’t rush them, there should be a deadline set for your developer/designer. These kinds of things should be decided and agreed upon by you and your web designer at the very beginning of the design of your music website.

Having a deadline set doesn’t mean that you should, all of a sudden, get angry when that date comes to pass. There can be and are a lot of little things that can go wrong or delay your project from being done at the exact date it was supposed to be. The deadline for your music website should be more like an estimated due date rather than a set one. Think about it this way, if you talk with your web designer/developer and they give you a date of estimated completion this is all dependant on things like: if you get your content to them in a timely manner, if they are a responsible developer, and if you don’t have any major changes during revisions.

Deadlines are meant to keep everyone on task and motivated. It’s the best way to make sure that your music website is going to be done by a certain time. There should always be a time set no matter what so that everyone stays on task and focused on the project. Music Web Design: Visualize, Build, and Revise

March 6, 2008 9:30 am

There are music websites all over the internet and yours should not be lost in the surge. You can make sure that your website is memorable by the content that you include in your website and all the images that you use. There is also going to be good feedback if your design is really interesting and draws people in. Without doing SEO work this is the best that you can do with the site to make sure that people are looking and continue to stay on the website. This is why it is so important to make sure that your site conveys the image of you, your band, or your company that you want it to.

Making sure that your music website is coming along as planned is going to be your only job during the building process of your music website. Although most web designers won’t let you or have something that you can visually see while building, they should give you something before the project is deemed “done”. This is usually called a development link or whatever, something where you can see the website working and with everything you wanted on it. Make sure that everything is up to par, that things are where you want them to be, that everything works out. This way you can go back to your web designer and let them know if there is something more you want done to it.

A good web designer should give you revisions. There should be no “Ok, I’m done. See ya.” right after it’s initially built. There are always going to be problems and changes that need to be made and the web designer should be there so that you can make them. Revisions are the key to having a fine tuned website and you are entitled to them. Unless they are huge changes to the music website you should have no problems. Music Web Design: Your Part Of The Plan

8:28 am

Choosing a web designer is probably the most time consuming part of your whole music website project. Having to do all that work andinterviews and explaining and re-explaining the same things over and over to different people is what makes it so aggravating.  Once this is done with you can rest at ease because the next steps are all much easier and flow smoother. After getting all of your ideas together (a good thing to do so that you aren’t at a loss when talking to your web designer) you can talk with them about what kind of layout you are going to want and how you want your whole website set up.

After picking out everything the most important thing that your web designer is going to ask you for is your content. This is something that you NEED to give your web designer. Some people feel that this step is unimportant and they don’t understand the concept of content or what it is. Content is all the text and images that are going to be included in your website. All of this has to come from you because…. well, just because. I mean, how can you expect your web designer to generate content about you without knowing anything about you in the first place. You have a couple of choices, you can either provide all the content exactly how you want it written or you can submit a bunch of information about yourself to a content writer so that they can produce some well written content.

Without this content there is no way for your web designer to complete your project, so you should get on it. Try to get your content to your web designer in a timely fashion so that they can complete your music website even faster. Music Web Design: Coming Or Going

8:00 am

After you make that big decision that you are ready to take it to the next level, the next step is all up to you; finding someone to do it for you. A capable and creative web designer that is going to follow all your plans and ideas so that what you are imagining for your music web design will come to life on the internet. The way to go about this is really up to you but I can give you some tips that may help you make a decision or make the process a little easier.

There are a few ways to find a web designer for your music website. You can go on the internet and look up ”web designers” or “web design company” in a major search engine and see what comes up. Most likely a lot of different companies are going to show up and you can look through each of their websites. These companies should have portfolios of their previous work and if they don’t, I wouldn’t recommend using them. Make sure that you look farther into the natural search result than the first page; you may find that there is a web design company that would like to use on one of these pages.

If you’re looking for a freelancer or are wanting people to come to you there is a simple solution for you. Posting and ad on Craigslist is going to generate a lot of responses. The only advice I can offer you here is to make your ad as detailed as possible with what you are going to be wanting. The other thing about Craigslist and boards like this is that there are a lot of unqualified people that are going to respond to your ad. You will have to weed through all the bad ones to find any good, and there won’t be many.

Searching for a web designer for your music website is going to be a hard task and you should choose carefully and with your gut feelings. If you don’t like someone, even if they sound and look professional, go with someone else. It is too much of a hassle to have something bad happen in the middle of building your music website and then you have to go out and find someone else.
