After everything is said and done on your medical website it is ultimately you who has to keep things maintained. If you chose a freelance web designer you will most likely not be seeing them again. Once they are done with your site, they are done with you, in most cases. With a web design company you can never be sure if they will offer to help you with updates and if you need help. There are some special web design companies that go above and beyond for their customers. Making sure that they are fully satisfied and taken care of even after their websites are completed. If you happen to find one of these web design companies you should know that you’ve chosen wisely.

Maintaining a website can be hard work if you don’t know what you’re doing and it can be terrible if you have a large website or something that is going to take some manpower to keep going. For the smaller updates you can choose to go through your web design company but if you’re going to be needing many changes or always having to have technical help then hiring a webmaster for your medical website is going to be the best choice. Granted, most medical websites don’t enough changes to justify having a webmaster, but the decision is up to you. Having your web design company make small changes every once in a while is suitable if that is all you need.

Keeping up with your website is going to be key in keeping your website working for you. Minor changes are always necessary in websites after time. If you choose to have a webmaster make sure that they are capable of keeping up with your site whenever you ask them to do something. That is what they are there for, to keep your medical website up and looking pretty.

After your site is live and finished there is always one more thing to do. Most people don’t know much about SEO or search engine optimization and there is even less who know how to do it properly. There are a lot of different ways to go about doing SEO work on your medical website. There are acceptable ways to go about doing SEO and there are ways to go about it that is considered “cheating the system”. SEO is something that should be discussed with your web designer after the project is complete or close to being complete.

SEO is something that every website should have done; it really is a necessity if you do most of your business on the internet and especially if you want to be found on major search engines. Search engine optimization is something that can be continuously done, it never has to stop and it really shouldn’t. Having continuous search engine optimization work done for your website will make sure that you keep rising the in natural rankings of the search engines or stay at the top (if that is where you are). Getting to be number one on the natural search engine rankings for a broad term is a hard task. With continuous SEO work you can make sure that you are getting the most out of your website.

Your web designer may not offer SEO work but they may know where you can go to get SEO work done. Most of them will have some sort of connection, at least, to someone who can help you with the SEO work. Search engine optimization is something that you should really consider for your medical website. I don’t know how to say it any clearer. There is no point to being on the internet and having a medical website if you can’t be found.

When your web designer starts building your website you may think that now is the time you can sit down, relax, and wait for you website to be built. Well this couldn’t be farther from the truth because you still have a lot to do. Your web designer is going to ask you about your content; content being the text and images on a website. You need to submit or give your content to your web designer. If your medical website isn’t going to be that large then this task is an easy one. Bigger websites obviously have more content and you will need to take a bit more time to get everything together. Nevertheless, you should try to get everything together quickly because it will keep your medical web design project moving forward.

No one knows your medical practice or career better than you. This is why I encourage everyone who is looking to build a website to write their own content. Usually content that comes from the client is more personal and informative. There is one exception to this rule, if you have all the information about your medical practice together or have problems writing there is always an option for a professional writer to be brought in. Some web design companies have content writers available for you to use in this way. Don’t depend on them to make your text exactly how you want it. Writing styles are different with each person and you should realize this before deciding to hire one. If you have specific instructions on how you want your text written then you should specify.

Gathering all your content for you medical website isn’t as hard as you think. The images are the easy part; all you have to do is take some pictures around your office with a digital camera. Make sure that they aren’t extremely amateur looking because you want to portray how professional you are. After you give all this content to your web designer you are finally relieved of your duties for the time being.

As you’re finally getting everything sorted out and ready to go; deciding you want to build a medical website, making a reasonable budget, choosing a web designer, and everything in between, there is still work to do. After partnering up with a web designer to get your project underway the first thing that you are going to go over with them is what you want your website to look like and how you want it to function. Some thought should have been put into this topic before you begin your project at all. If you don’t have any ideas how you want your medical website to look, go to other health and medical websites to find out what attributes you like. Whether it is design or any type of functionality that is offered.

When looking at these other medical websites it would be a good idea to write some ideas down. Whether it sparks a thought or whether it is exactly how you want something, either way, make note of it and bring it to your web designer. They should be able to implement it into your website one way or another; it’s either that or they will offer you their own ideas and suggestions. A good web designer is one that guides you into making good decisions for your medical website.

Don’t be afraid to have your own ideas. If you think of something original, mention it to your web designer and they should be able to discuss with you about it. If it is really that important to you and you’re willing to pay for the development of it, then there should be no problem. All of your thoughts and ideas is what is going to drive the website to be done in the way that you see fit.

After realizing all the time, effort, and money that you are going to be putting into your medical website the next thing that should take place is the choosing of a web designer. There are going to be many out there to choose from and you should choose wisely. Although there is no way of perfectly doing this without the proper knowledge of web design and what a web designer is and what they do. This is going to be the purpose of this post, to show you what to look for and what is out there when choosing a web designer.

When choosing a web designer you should think about the two main possibilities that are out there; freelancers and web design companies. Freelancers are always going to be a single person, there are many of them out there and they are usually somewhat cheaper than a web design company. You have to realize that with a freelancer comes a gray area of doubt, the fact that they are not tied down by anything. One minute they are available and the other they don’t even exist. This is not the case with all freelancers but it is always a possibility. If you decide to go with a freelancer trust is the most important factor in your relationship, the second is reliability.

A web design company is going to be your best bet for reliability and quality. With an established company you can rest assured that your website is in good hands. Of course there are going to be some companies that are the exception to this case. In the broad spectrum of things a web design company is a little higher in price as far as your medical website is concerned, but it is also going to be a much better choice in the long run. It is really up to you who you choose for your web designer, and you should think about your decision carefully.

After you’ve decided to have a medical website built for your practice/office you should think about how much of an investment you are willing to make. There is going to be a lot of time that has to be put in on your end of this project and it’s mandatory. What this time is going to be put towards can and will be discussed in later posts. For now, all you need to know is the general time and effort that you are going to be putting into this website. There is also the investment of money; how much you will be spending is a mystery until you go out looking for quotes and compare prices.

There is always going to be money involved with building a medical website. That is, unless you have something that you can trade for services, which never usually ends up working out in the long run. Consider saving up for you medical website before going to get quotes, otherwise most companies will think that you are ready to start at that moment. Having a little bit of money saved up first is going to help you with getting started building your medical website and it will help in case you over-saved because then you can use that extra money for something else.

The amount of money you are going to spend on your medical website varies depending on what you are going to want your website to do. With each different function that you add onto your medical website you are going to end up paying a little more for each. Keep this in mind when figuring out what you want from your medical website and what budget you have or a price you are looking for. Some web designers figure out price based on other things but it shouldn’t really be about anything but functionality. This is another good thing to find out when requesting quotes from web design companies.

We briefly started talking about who could benefit from a doctor’s medical website; you as a physician and your patients or potential patients. There are a lot of things that you should be able to find out on a medical website, like information about who you are and what you specialize in. Doctor’s are lacking presence over the internet because none of them have medical websites. The most medical websites that you come across are for hospitals, medical centers, and related companies. I would think that most doctor’s don’t feel the need to have a medical website dedicated to their practice but it is actually a really good idea; especially these days where the internet is the best way to get information about anything.

By having a medical website for yourself as a doctor you are almost advertising for your practice. Showing people information about you and your office is going to give them the impression that you are a respectable and reliable because you are willing to give out all of your information and background to whoever wants to see it. This is a benefit for you and your clients because you will be showing them how you are a quality doctor and they will have the benefit of being able to learn everything they want about you.

Medical web design is something that I think more doctors should think about getting. There are so many out there without websites for people to find any information on them and it’s tragic. There are many different resources available to people for finding a doctor in their area but all these applications do is to give the doctor’s contact information. Before randomly choosing a doctor I really would like to learn a lot more about them. This person is going to be responsible for helping me to continue being healthy, they are my go-to guy for everything medical related; of course I am going to want to know about them.

Having a medical website is going to benefit many people. You as the doctor, for one, are going to be receiving the most benefits. By having a medical website that shows all of your professional information people are going to be more inclined to actually schedule an appointment with you. This is because they see that you are an established medical doctor and you even have your own medical website that shows who you are. You will be easier to find and look more professional than you already do.

A medical website is also going to benefit patients as well. There are going to be those people out there that need to find a doctor whose office is close to where they live. With the internet it is easy to do this. Now they have this whole list of all these doctor’s and their contact information, and you are the only one with a website. I would see this as a bonus and most likely use you as choice for a medical doctor. Why? Because it seems that you’ve actually had to put some effort into your practice; putting up a website that looks good is no easy task.

One of the most important types of medical web design out there is cosmetic web design. By this I mean doctors that specialize in cosmetic surgery. The reason for this being that most people who are considering cosmetic surgery are really looking to do a lot of research on the subject beforehand. Whether it is research on the type of surgery they are looking at or the doctor that they are going to trust with their outward appearance. If you are a doctor making a website you should think about a few things. One being, how are you going to show that you are experienced? What are you going to put as far as information on your website? How easy is the information to find?

Showing you are a knowledgeable and well-experienced cosmetic surgeon is a hard thing to show people. They can either believe you or not. This is what images are perfect for. You want to have a good amount of text explaining your credentials and all the work that you have done previously. You also want images to go along with this. I would suggest having a page dedicated to before and after pictures of your patients. This will be the deal breaker. More people are going to be looking at your before and after pictures than reading any of your text. People are visual creatures and that’s just fact.

Your information should reflect your professionalism and your ability to be personable. Try to write as if there was someone really sitting there listening to you talk. The information that is on your site should be a home page welcoming telling potential patients a little bit about what you do. There should be an about us/me section explaining, as said above, your credentials and a little about yourself. Another page should be dedicated to your services, meaning all the types of cosmetic surgeries that you can perform. This page should be chock full of information about each type of surgery, the procedure, and anything else you can let the patient in on. This would also be a good place to have a link to your images (before & after). The last bit of information is your contact page that should have your number and location.

You should always make sure that your navigation is easy to use and straight to the point. Never having someone searching for a bit of information or whatever they may be looking for. Navigation is important in medical web design because there is so much competition out there that the potential patient can just go to someone else’s website. Keep this in mind when designing your medical web page. Want to learn more about medical web design?

Medical web design is one type of web design that should be used frequently. Trying to find a doctor has become ten times easier because of the Internet and medical web design. No more flipping to the doctors page in the yellow book and randomly placing your finger onto the page. You can now find everything your looking for in a doctor by just filling out a form, submitting and presto! you’ve got results upon results to choose from. The only problem I see with this is that most of the time when you try to look into the medical facility and/or the doctor, all you get to see is where they are located and their contact information. I suppose I could spend the time to pick up the phone and call to ask all of my questions which I feel are valid and important, but would they be able to spend the time on me? I realize doctors are quite busy and usually don’t have time to sit with me on the phone and chat about what it is they do and what their patients can expect from them. There must be some solution to this mess. Of course there is, it’s medical web design, and every doctor should think about having their own website made so that patients looking them up can read some information about the doctor they are thinking about choosing.

With that being said I want to say a few things to the people thinking, “Well not every doctor has a lot of information to give. A lot of doctors only have a small practice that really doesn’t need a web page.” Wrong! Every doctor can benefit from having a web page. I’ve used the “find a doctor in your area” form a bunch of times and all I get is that list of names and locations. In fact, there are always a couple of doctors with websites listed. These are the ones that I look at! You know why? Because I want something solid to look at without having to talk to a doctor that I may not even end up choosing; and so does everyone else. Even if your a doctor with a small practice, you can still make a smaller webpage that showcases your expertise. Even having a website makes your look bigger than you are. There are so many benefits that in this day and age you really can’t go without one. Not to say that some doctors who already have their regular patients built up can’t survive without a website. I’m talking about doctors just coming into practices of their own. It will really help you get your practice off the ground.

Along with medical web design there comes a question. What do I put into my medical website as far as information goes? Well, only you can really decide this. There are so many different types of doctors specializing in all sorts of different areas that there really isn’t a good general template I can give you. I can tell you that the more information the better. I’ve said this in many other posts. Also try to be personable and professional at the same time when adding content to your website. My last bit of advice is to always make sure to have your contact information, your location, and hours that you are open somewhere on your site. It’s the last thing I’m going to want to know about you after looking through your site. Want to know more about medical web design?
