Educational Web Design: Daycare Web Design

September 28, 2007 9:53 am

Educational web design can be an umbrella term for a few different types of websites. One of the major types of educational websites falls under a subcategory we’ll call school web design. Now even that term can be broken down into a few different categories. Seeing how there are several different types of schools this makes total sense.

One of the most popular types of school websites are going to be for a grade school or middle school. These school websites have a fairly simple setup. Most will just have a few pages. One page of course will be the home page, the next contact information, and then they might have a recent news page. Mainly the people that are going to be viewing this particular school website are going to be parents and possibly teachers, if the school website is set up with email accounts. Most students will not be going on to their school’s website so it is important to keep that in mind when you are planning out the development of the school website. However schools are changing and the richer school districts might want to look at student and teacher logins for their email accounts and even school work help. This type of school website will be more expensive then the typical school website, but if you have the funding you might as well create the best website you can. The more functionality and information that is available to the students, parents, and faculty the better.

Another type of school that could benefit from a school website would be daycares or preschools. Usually preschools fall under a district and their website might be incorporated into the districts website. But daycares are usually more business like in the way they operate. Daycares are the most popular school websites that are built today. If you are looking to set up a daycare website there are a few things you may want to consider. Seeing how your school is also a business there are a few things that your school website is going to do differently then a typical school website. You are going to have to think about marketing your school website more then a typical school website. You may also have a few more functions then the typical school website. Basically your daycare website is going to have to be setup more like a business website then a school website. But your daycare website would still fall under the school website umbrella.

There are so many different avenues that one can take school web design. Whatever type of educational website you want to have developed DreamCo Design is the expert in all things web design. Educational Web Design: Communication is the Key

9:51 am

There are so many different types of schools and they all offer children and adults so many different things. The one thing these schools have in common is that they can all benefit from a school website. Most school websites are just there to give the school an online presence to allow parents to see what that particular school has to offer their child. Others will be used to educate as well as offer those students and faculty several educational related items.

More often then not, the schools that are going to benefit the most from a website that has many functions such as, account login, email accounts, library catalog, online tutoring, and so on. Typically the only schools that would need all those fancy features would be a college or private school. The more functions your school website has the more money it is going to cost. Cost is a major issue with anything. If your school is looking to build a website the district probably has a budget that they are looking to work within. This means that your school needs to be exactly sure of the things you are expecting your school website to do.

Because there are so many things that can be done with school web design and your budget is going to limit a lot of the features you can have. The best course of action before you find a web designer is to develop a project outline. This way you, the district, and the web designer all have an exact idea of what needs to be done. Just take a look at what areas of your school could benefit the most from a school website. Those areas that need a little help should be addressed on your school’s website if it is possible. Obviously one of the most beneficial thing about having a school website is that it can enhance communication between faculty members. Communication is a major issue in any type of establishment. If your school website was set up so every faculty member has an email account it would defiantly make the communication aspect of the school run more efficient.

There are so many more benefits to having an educational website or school website developed. It would be pretty hard to fit them all in to one blog entry. Educational Web Design: The SEO Monster

September 27, 2007 10:17 am

The hardest thing to do with an educational website is to market it properly. The key to getting your educational website exposed to the public is not as cut and dry as one would think. There are several things that go into marketing your educational website and it would be incredibly difficult to pin point exactly what to do.

One of the major things you can do to market your educational website is to have SEO work done on it. SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. This is a process that uses several different marketing solutions so your educational website shows up closer to the top of the natural search engine results. Different search engines focus on different things, that is why it is best to higher someone or better yet a company to do it for you. Unfortunately having SEO done on your educational website does not guarantee results. Some markets, especially the educational market, are extremely hard to brake. But there are things that fall under SEO that you can do yourself to boost your natural results.

The one big thing that is believed to be the new focus of the search engines are links. Every few years the search engine will change up the formula or criteria for natural search results. Links seem to be the new focus of website importance. The more links that point back to your website, the more important the search engine will think you are. Hence boosting your natural search results status. It several hundred links to do this. Some SEO companies will allow you to purchase link packages that will put your educational website’s link up on a few hundred pages. This can cost around $200 to $500 depending on the number of links and the ranking of the pages that you link is going on.

One of the best ways to boost the natural search engine results of your educational website is to get people to hang out on your website. The more time people spend on your educational website the better. This means you have to also have a great educational website to begin with. No one wants to play on a crappy website. No kid will sit around on a boring website either. Make sure your educational website is great at appealing to that target age group. If you have a children’s educational website you have it pretty easy. There is a classical marketing strategy that is almost a fail safe way of guaranteeing traffic to your website.

That strategy is to get the kids. It sounds a little perverted but here me out. If you can reel in the kids and make their experience educational and entertaining they will want to come back. You get the kids hooked, you will get the parents hooked. Parents love anything that their kids will enjoy. This is why stores have grand openings and have petting zoos, face painters and all that other carnival stuff. It entertains the kids which makes the parents happy. Happy parents will always remember that their child was treated well at that store and keep coming back. This gets the store repeat business. Also the kids will grow up remembering how much fun they had when they were young and they will shop there with their kids too. Happy parents also tell other parents which in turn tell more parents. So all in all make the kids happy you make the parents happy. Happy parents talk. Word of mouth is the absolute greatest form of marketing around. Plus it is absolutely free, which in itself is great.

Educational Websites: What Is The Target Age Group

10:10 am

Educating a child can be a hard thing to do. Children of different ages and social status vary in their levels of cognitive development. The idea of an educational website that appeals to a wide age group of children would be very difficult to achieve. It could also prove to be a fairly expensive endeavor. The best thing to do for your educational website is to keep the target group narrow, at least for the time being.

Once you have seen some success with your educational website you can then think about expanding it to appeal to other age groups of children. This would be the most cost effective solution for your educational website. It is not that you can not immediately have an educational website designed that appeals to several age groups; it would just be very expensive and take a whole lot of time as well. It would be best to chose two closely related age groups, most likely young preschool to first grade children. Then after you have had that educational website established for awhile you can expand into second and third graders. This way you are adjusting in a progressive manner in the cognitive development of the child.

Another great reason to expand and develop your educational website in this way is that you are growing the website with the child. The child that started using your educational website at that preschool age will grow at about the same rate as your educational website. This way you are assuring the child will come back several times to learn and play. You are also establishing customers for the adolescent life of the child through the parents. Also these parents will tell other parents how great your educational website is. They will say how great little Johnny is doing with his colors and ABC’s. This will make those other parents sign their kid on too. Nobody likes to hear that someone else’s kid is better then theirs. It sounds terrible, but use that jealousy to your advantage; it would be great for you business and your educational story.

Educational Web Design: Math and Cookies

September 26, 2007 10:28 am

One of the major areas for educational web design is dedicated to making websites that appeal towards children. These types of educational websites have great potential for making money and helping out children. And honestly what could be more important then helping out kids? I don’t think anything is.

You have to figure out exactly where you want to take your educational website. If you decide to gear it towards educating children you have to keep in mind that you must choose a target age group. If you are planning on making an educational website that helps high school kids with their Trig or Calc homework, you may want to steer away from filler stuff and get to the point. If you plan on building an educational website that helps preschool children with learning their colors, you may want to consider implementing an interactive flash game with cartoon characters. The older the child the less emphasis you need to put on entertainment. High school and college kids know that they need to get there homework done quickly, they really do not want to play a quadratic equation game with Big Bird and Elmo. And a kindergarten child is not going to stay focused on step by step diagrams that show the proper way to choose the red apple. That would be incredibly boring, but the Elmo thing might be fun.

The problem with using cartoon characters for your educational website is that you might not be able to use ones that are copyrighted. This has a little loophole if you go through the proper channels. I am not sure how it works for character likeness rights but I know that if you use a picture or a document for educational purposes you do not have to pay for it. As long as you are not using it to sell anything. Again do not take my word for it, we do not want anyone to get into a legal battle with Sesame Street, those cats are tough. But seriously check it out with your lawyer or just develop your own character. The key issue is when you are dealing with little children you need to keep them entertained and educate at the same time.

DreamCo Design offers several solutions for educational web design. We can develop you a great educational website that can appeal to every age group or just a specific age group. So why wait, give DreamCo Design a called today. For more information check us out at DreamCo Design - Educational Web Design or School Web Design.
